Leona is Spanish for lioness, and like one she takes the best position on the street and holds it. Set on a corner in Pineapple Park, the next great address in West Palm Beach, Leona gives Mission architecture a modern stance: an arcade of deep arches along York Street, slender fins screening the floor above, and hand-floated lime plaster softened by planting over a low garden wall. Behind the wall, the ground floor opens from the front door straight through to the loggia and pool, until the house and the garden become one room. Stone underfoot, pale oak within, and a private bath and walk-in closet for every bedroom. Dinner for twelve, and doors open from October to May. Commanding from the street, entirely private within.
